Who We Are

Be Well Cafe, & Grocery Market is a non profit social enterprise, located in a beautiful historic building in Hyde Park that was once home to the neighborhood post office back in the 1800's.  We are proud to announce that we are 80% complete on rehabbing the building and we are hoping to open in June 2024!

Our programs are part of a larger vision that includes a grocery market, a incubator kitchen, coworking spaces, farmers market and community garden.  We support the "Good Food Movement", good food grown by family farmers and local gardeners, we support new and budding businesses,  minority and women-owned businesses and start-ups.

Be Well is  are located in a recognized food desert and in a U.S. Hud Promise Zone with a population of 50,136 with a Median income of $31,673.  Holding listening sessions throughout or inception, we were guided by the community and their needs which included access to fresh affordable food, entrepreneurial support, and jobs.

Our Impact

Our mission is to empower, provide opportunities and create sustainable food ecosystems.  Our programs include a grocery market featuring affordable, accessible fruits, vegetables and alternative foods including diabetic Grab & Go meals, staples, dairy, bakery and personal items.  Our culinary incubator space provides BPIOC culinary entrepreneurs a space where they feel safe, supported and celebrated and provides them the opportunity to interact with the community, test market their products and provides a retail outlet for their product.  We host a farmers market with local, sustainable farmers, growers, food purveyors and small business owners.  We offer coworking space for small business owners that focuses on the three challenges that BPIOC entrepreneurs face:  Financial capital - The ability to acquire money and resources to successfully operate a business by making connections and providing collaborative opportunities.  Human capital - Proving access o mentors and professional support and Social capital - Removing barriers that limit growth, and we provide collaborative opportunities.

We support holistic lifestyles so we collaborate with like minded businesses and non-profits such as BJC Healthcare who provide free health screening, St. Louis Area Food Bank "Food on the Move Truck"  providing an array of staples and dairy products to the community, Trailnet, City Greens Market, BRICC, Known and Grown and a host of other organizations.

Our farmers market is open on Wednesday, 4 - 7:00 pm May thru October.  Last year we served over 550 resident many who would not have had access to fresh wholesome food.  We accept SNAP and we were Farmers Market Voucher market which provided $50 vouchers to senior citizens.

As we work to build a social, entrepreneurship culture, we are reducing disparities in food access, bringing economic development, jobs and opportunities to an often forgotten disinvested community all while providing access to wholesome food.
