Second Heart Homes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides supportive housing services to homeless adults with mental health issues. Our high-touch, tailored-service approach sets us apart by providing long-term housing and care that revives dignity, establishes stability and teaches independence. Clients come to us based on their commitment to address health issues, remain sober and achieve personal goals toward self-sufficiency. Many later rejoin the community.

The need has never been greater

 Did you know? The number of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness in Sarasota and Manatee counties has increased by almost 42% in the past two years, according to the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness's 2022 Annual Point-in-Time survey. 

Historic increases in both housing costs and the cost of living are the main reasons for this alarming trend. At 10.5%, inflation in our region tops the national average of 8.5%. And because housing costs have gone through the roof, the number of first-time homeless people has gone up too, with rent increases ranging from 50 to 100%.

Your Fresh Start gift provides a hand up, not a hand out

Providing housing, food and hygiene care does help to get homeless men and women off the streets. But it often doesn't drive transformative change. That's where we differ, by providing 24/7 tailored support in a loving home environment to help restore dignity and self-sufficiency. Our Fresh Start Program fosters growth and change by helping to fund individual goals toward education, employment, personal and social development, and mental and physical wellbeing. When our clients thrive, the community thrives!

For Denise, a Fresh Start gift provided clothes for her new hostess job at El Melvin Cocina Mexicana 

For Nick, a Fresh Start gift allowed him to study for his GED with tutors from the Sarasota Ballet 

For Autumn, a Fresh Start Gift offered healing and growth through professional instruction from Art Avenue
