A Healthier, Happier Community Through Trails

Not only do trails contribute to the economic development of an area, but having outdoor adventure opportunities contributes to a healthier, happier, more connected community.

Redding Trail Alliance seeks to highlight our area's unique adventure culture by advocating for diverse trail experiences through:

  1. Well maintained trails.  With over 200 miles of natural surface trails at our disposal maintenance has long been a huge need which our land managers haven't had the capacity to fully address. RTA and a handful of volunteers have spent over 1,500 hours already this year in maintenance efforts and we've barely scratched the surface. We're still dealing with post-fire impacts of increased maintenance needs even now years after the Carr Fire. With the implementation of the Adopt-a-Trail program and focus on maintenance training we expect to make a bigger dent on the maintenance needs for our area!
  2. Better trail planning and building with quality user experience in mind.   RTA is working with land managers to diversify the user experience by means of trail features and varying levels of difficulty to keep local users engaged and visitors coming back. Planning and building trails using up to date water mitigation and erosion techniques prevents the need for frequent tread maintenance.
  3. Redding Bike Park. The addition of this community asset will improve Caldwell Park by increasing positive use in a currently underutilized area that is at risk for fire, vandalism and transient camps.  It will facilitate skill building for all ages which results in better bike handling abilities and less accidents while out exploring the plethora of trails Redding has to offer.  It will serve as a platform for activities and programs that will benefit our youth.  And importantly, it will fill a need in trail difficulty and progression that experienced users seek.
  4. Community Events. RTA and partners host a free community event each year: The Bigfoot Adventure Challenge.  A 2-month long passport style event that encourages folks to get out and explore the trails.  It challenges participants, builds enthusiasm for trail exploration and provides a little participation motivation via prizes. RTA's other fundraising events are all community driven with the goal of giving back, by making each event fun and engaging.

Each of the areas above take a lot of time, effort and money to accomplish.  If you enjoy using our trails and recognize the physical and mental health benefits they bring - consider donating to an organization that is not satisfied with the status quo but is pushing for progressive development with outcome-based results.
