New Name. New Mission. More Kids.

Families are the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population, and 88% of those families are led by single mothers with multiple children under the age of five. Homelessness robs parents of the ability to give children the safety and security they need to grow. Without intervention, it can cause life-long physical, emotional, and mental trauma in children. You can help.

Founded in 1987, Vogel Alcove was created to give homeless families residing in local shelters the opportunity for free, quality childcare in a safe and nurturing environment.

Understanding that shelters are not an ideal learning environment, Vogel Alcove was created to give parents of these children a location to enroll their children while they worked during the day or as they worked to repair their lives while on the road to recovery.

Fueled by extensive research from the Casey Foundation, Vogel Alcove has embraced a "two-generation" model to break the cycle of poverty for homeless children and their parents.

A Look At Vogel:

Our Mission in Action

Vogel is “unique” from other organizations offering childcare because it is the only childcare center exclusively serving North Texas children and their families who are currently homeless or are recovering from homelessness. 50% of our families are currently homeless and residing in an emergency shelter or transitional living. 50% have housing but live in crippling poverty. Most of our families are led by single mothers with no support system to help them. Vogel is ALSO among only 5% of early childcare centers nationwide accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Vogel offers trauma-informed, research-based childcare for our children along with play therapy from our licensed child therapists and wonderful learning activities in our innovative Vogel Sensory Village. Mental health care for our parents is also offered without charge from our on-site adult mental health therapists.

The need to serve our families is greater than ever. To respond to our families' needs, we need your support to ensure Vogel maintains the services that have been vital to homeless children and their families since we opened our doors in 1987.

We employ highly skilled and educated teachers and staff to support these programs, and the resources and tools needed for success depend on donor funding to thrive. As the homeless population grows in DFW, we must be able to help families in crisis.

Mission

Our mission is to help young children and their families prevent & overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness and poverty.

It is our vision at Vogel to make sure that every child in our community has a home, a self-sufficient family, and a foundation for success in school and life. Our programming is culturally competent, holistic, and family-centered. A two-generation approach provides developmental interventions for children while helping parents establish a stable home environment.

We strive to Rewire Brains, Repair Hearts, and Restore Families.

Needs

Vogel is making big moves in the next several months, and we need your support to make them happen.

Our Vogel North Childcare Center will be opening this fall!

The new Vogel North Childcare Center will broaden the impact of our research-based programming as we serve more Dallas area children and families than ever before. The expansion will allow us to serve approximately 50 additional children.

Our Vogel Childcare Center at RedBird will be opening in early 2024!

This development will again allow us to service additional areas of Dallas and employees from Parkland, UT Southwestern, Chime Call Center, and other retail & office locations. At this facility, we will be able to support approximately 134 additional children.

You can support these growth efforts with a gift today!
