Needs
Beginning in March of 2020, the Eldred McClean Counseling Center (EMCC) experienced an escalation of calls and emails from people seeking comfort, support, and help. A lot of people were seeking out our services due to grief, marital conflict, divorce, and concern for their children. Some were suffering grief on top of grief - the loss of loved ones, the loss of jobs due to lay-offs, and the abrupt loss of life as they once knew it. Out of compassion and not wanting to turn anyone away, the EMCC Board of Directors suspended all fees for counseling services in April 2020. And although the uptick in clients meant increased expenses for Telehealth and other essential services, EMCC was able to continue the Center’s operations as we focused on responding to those seeking our help. With the help of generous donors, we were able to continue counseling individuals free of charge for an entire year!
Today, the number of people looking for support from EMCC post-Covid still ebbs and flows. All of our counselors have full client loads. Unfortunately, requests for counseling due to issues of grief, anxiety, depression, divorce and conflict in families are still on the rise. However, our focus is not singularly on diagnosing and treating specific conditions. Rather, we strive to help individuals holistically.
