Voice of Vashon

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Voice of Vashon is your island connection. We help our Island neighbors create, produce and distribute locally-oriented audio and video programming; and provide a communications lifeline in case of an Island emergency.

Description

Voice of Vashon was founded in 1999 to literally give Vashon Island a voice. So, when people ask about our format, we answer: "All Vashon, All the Time." We are Vashon's only public radio and TV station. We have a 20-year track record of delivering on our promise of giving the Island a voice through our multiple broadcast platforms. We operate our community radio station, KVSH, at 101.9FM or via our free smartphone app. Our public access cable TV channel is available via Comcast Channel 21 or online streaming. Our Vashon Emergency Alert Service stands ready 24/7/365 on 1650AM and a 2.000+ member email bulletin list. All of our programming is available on our easy to use website portal at VoiceOfVashon.org. Our volunteers devote an estimated 10,000 hours per year to keeping it all on the air. We build community by nurturing civic dialogue, culture and arts for our rural island community. To perform that service we have worked hard to develop community partners. Voice of Vashon's community partners include service organizations such as VashonBePrepared, Vashon Island Fire & Rescue and Puget Sound Energy Foundation plus arts organizations including Drama Dock, Open Space for Arts & Community, Vashon Center for the Arts, Vashon Chamber Music, Vashon Island Chorale, and Vashon Opera.
